Venky's backing for Kean

Blackburn owners Venky's have hailed Steve Kean as a "brilliant" manager and remain convinced the team is heading in the right direction.

• Dunn: Players are behind Kean
• Kean: Venky's meeting not about job

Kean has come under heavy fire this season with Blackburn currently second from bottom in the Premier League after taking just four points from their opening seven games.

Fans have held regular demonstrations against Kean - Indian spectators were holding 'Kean out' placards during Friday's 3-0 friendly victory over FC Pune - but Venky's are keeping the faith.

"The team is in the relegation zone now but it's going to come up, I am sure of that," co-owner Balaji Rao told the Daily Mirror.

"We do know a few people have been generating thousands of emails demanding the ousting of Steve Kean, who is a brilliant manager, but we know the team is going in the right direction and we are very positive about the way the team is performing and the way it is going."

Venky's set their sights on a Champions League place upon completing their takeover last year and they remain hopeful about their chances of playing in Europe. "On the whole, the goal of playing in Europe in the next four or five years is a realistic one," Rao added.

Captain Christopher Samba has also called on the fans to show patience. "The message to the fans is there is nothing to feel alarmed [about]," he said in the Lancashire Telegraph. "We have a lot of time to turn it around."
