Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has been called up to the Italy squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Serbia and Northern Ireland, the first time he has been picked since 2008.
Barzagli, 30, was last selected for the Azzurri for a World Cup qualifying double-header three years ago but the former Wolfsburg centre-back is back in the national team fold after Cesare Prandelli included him in his latest squad.
Atalanta midfielder Luca Cigarini is also in the Italy squad and has a chance of making his international debut as Italy have already qualified for next summer's European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.
Barzagli has come in for injured Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, while Cigarini replaces Sampdoria's Angelo Palombo.
The Azzurri frontline will include Giuseppe Rossi, Antonio Cassano, Giampaolo Pazzini, Mario Balotelli and Sebastian Giovinco, with Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino out with a knee injury.
