Arsenal hopeful over Walcott injury

Arsenal are hopeful Theo Walcott will be fit to face Olympiakos in the Champions League on Wednesday after the injury that forced the winger to hobble off against Bolton was described as "minor".

•  Arsenal 3-0 Bolton
•  Wenger lauds Van Persie

Walcott pulled up in the dying stages of Arsenal's 3-0 win on Saturday, with Wenger intially fearing the 22-year-old had pulled a hamstring.

But club sources were downplaying the extent of Walcott's knock on Sunday, claiming it was only a "minor" knee problem.

He could now feature in an important week for the Gunners, who face Tottenham next Sunday after they host the Greek side.

Walcott was heavily involved in a much-improved Arsenal performance, laying on the second goal for Robin van Persie and forcing David Wheater into a tug that prompted a red card for the Bolton defender.

After the game Wenger was at a loss to explain the injury. He said: "I don't really know [what is wrong]. I thought it was a classic hamstring but it is not. He felt a sharp pain in his knee and at the moment he is with the doctor.

"I don't know what the diagnosis will be but it is completely surprising. There was no one near him. I don't know what they will do, whether they will have a scan tonight, I will have to speak to the medical people."
