Steelers close the gap

Pohang Steelers moved to five points behind K-League leaders Jeonbuk Motors with a 3-1 win at Sangju Sangmu.

Former Ghana international Derek Asamoah was involved in the two first-half goals for Pohang. He floated over a cross from the left to Adrian Chuva to poke the ball home at the far post after 22 minutes.

Just before the break Asamoah broke free down the right and rolled the ball to Mota inside the area and the Brazilian sidefooted home first time to extend the visitors' lead.

Kim Yong-tae pulled a goal back for the struggling hosts with 17 minutes remaining, but three minutes from the end Shin Hyung-min sealed the win for Pohang.

Pohang coach Hwang Sun-hong was not happy with the performance despite the three points.

"We didn't play the way I wanted us to play,'' he said. "We were missing our passes and I think it was boring for the fans and the people watching on television.''

Pohang's successors as AFC Champions League winners, Seongnam Ilwha Chunma, snatched a 3-2 win at home to Chunnam Dragons with a late goal.

Heverton put Seongnam ahead from the spot after 21 minutes, and two minutes before the break Everton Santos made it 2-0.

There was still time in the first half however for Lee Hyun-seung to pull a goal back for Chunnam, and when Yoon Suk-young equalised 12 minutes from the end the Dragons looked to be in for a share of the spoils.

That remained the case until a minute from time when Heverton grabbed his second and Seongnam's third.

Elsewhere, Busan I'Park were held to a 2-2 draw at Gwangju Sangmu.

Gwangju broke the deadlock on the hour thanks to Lee Sung-ki but Yoon Dong-min leveled for Busan after 76 minutes and Yang Dong-hyun put the visitors ahead five minutes later.

Yoo Jung-hyun struck in injury time to give Gwangju a point and leave Busan in sixth.
