Bayern Munich defender Breno will face an arson investigation after a fire at his house three days ago, according to District Attorney Thomas Steinkraus-Koch.
Breno, 21, avoided serious injury in the incident but did suffer from smoke inhalation. The Brazilian player was alone in the house at the time the fire broke out just after midnight, but his wife and children arrived at the scene as the defender was taken to hospital as a precaution.
"Based on the information we have, we believe that the fire was not an accident," Steinkraus-Koch was quoted as saying by TZ. "Mister Vinicius Rodrigues Borges [Breno] is suspected of arson.''
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Munich police and fire authorities, with the damage estimated at between €500,000 and €1 million.
"We are surprised by the new situation, that Breno will now be investigated. As we do not have any further information we cannot make any other comment," Bayern said in a brief statement.
