Hayatou in charge of 2012 Olympics

FIFA has made the controversial decision to place Issa Hayatou in charge of the London 2012 football tournament, despite the fact that he is still under investigation for corruption.

Hayatou was one of the executives who was alleged to have taken a bribe (in his case £10,000) in BBC programme Panorama's exposé of "FIFA's dirty secrets" last year.

However, despite replacing Korea's Chung Mong-joon as head of FIFA's Olympic committee, and also being appointed chairman of the GOAL Bureau (which distributes money for development projects), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) investigation into Hayatou is still ongoing.

At the time, the IOC released a statement about the investigation claiming that: "The IOC has zero tolerance against corruption." Now a spokesman has confirmed that this inquiry continues: "The ethics commission is independent but my understanding is that the investigation is still continuing."

Hayatou has previously denied the allegations and insisted the money was a payment towards the Confederation of African Football's 40th-anniversary celebrations.
