Marwood: City rocked by Cook exit

Manchester City's football administrator Brian Marwood has admitted that Manchester City were "rocked" by the departure of their chief executive, Garry Cook.

• Garry Cook quits Man City
• Cook under investigation for email

Cook resigned ten days ago after claims that he sent an offensive email to the mother and agent of defender Nedum Onuoha, who is suffering from cancer.

After first claiming his e-mail account had been hacked, Cook then admitted to an "error of judgement'' and left the club under a cloud. And Marwood has claimed that the exit has shaken the foundations at Eastlands.

"[Cook's departure] was a massive shame from a club point of view and a personal point of view. The whole club was rocked by what happened," he told BBC Sport. "I think everybody in football and close to the club are fully aware of what he has achieved and what the club has achieved in these three years. As the chairman said, he will always be welcome at this football club."

As for Cook's replacement, the 51-year-old added: ''It will take as long as it needs to get the right person. That search will be worldwide and we will have somebody that will take forward the great work that has been carried out.''

Meanwhile, Patrick Vieira has said that Manchester City and Manchester United can now boast one of the biggest rivalries in world football.

The Premier League's top two sides meet at Old Trafford on October 23 and former City star Vieira, who now works as an ambassador for the club, is already excited about the prospect of the derby.

"Everybody is talking about the derby already and it will be really exciting,'' he told talkSPORT. "I think it is now one of the biggest derbies around the world. When you compare AC-Inter and Barcelona-Real, I think United-City will be at the same level now."
