Redknapp key to Parker move

Scott Parker has pinpointed Harry Redknapp's persistence as one of the main reasons behind why he decided to join Tottenham this summer.

Parker brought down the curtain on his West Ham career by signing for Spurs on the final day of the transfer window for a fee in the region of £5.5 million. The 30-year-old was chased by a number of clubs following West Ham's relegation to the Championship, but the midfielder decided to make White Hart Lane his destination.

Redknapp has chased Parker's signature for years and it was his admiration for the player that made the decision to move across London easy.

"It was obviously a little bit difficult because I have left a very good club and one which I thoroughly enjoyed my time at, but when a club like Tottenham want to sign you it is pretty easy really and I am really looking forward to it," Parker said.

"I think it always helps when you feel the manager wants you, and over the last few years Harry has stated that he likes me as a player."

Parker's impressive club form in the last couple of years has seen him become a permanent fixture on the international stage and he admits his England career was at the forefront of his mind when he realised his time at Upton Park was up.

"Yeah I did [think about my England career], definitely," he said. "I felt that at my age and at my stage of my career and the way it has gone for me over the last year on the international stage I felt I had to play in the Premier League. I stated that to the manager at West Ham and I appreciated that they've obviously not made life hard for me and really given me the move that I wanted."

Parker is set to make his debut for his new club as Spurs look to kick-start their faltering league campaign against Wolves on Saturday. Redknapp's men are currently bottom of the table but fellow new addition Emmanuel Adebayor - on loan from Manchester City - could provide the firepower needed to chalk up a first win.
