Constantini to leave Austria post

The Austrian Football Federation (OFB) has confirmed coach Dietmar Constantini will leave his post at the end of the year.

Constantini's contract expires at the end of December and the 56-year-old will not be offered an extension. "This was agreed [between Constantini] and OFB president Leo Windtner on Wednesday morning in a personal conversation,'' an OFB statement read.

Constantini, whose side's faint hopes of reaching Euro 2012 were extinguished with a goalless draw against Turkey on Tuesday night, will remain in charge of the team's final two qualifiers, against Azerbaijan on October 7 and Kazakhstan four days later.

The OFB hopes to have his successor installed by early November, with the new man pencilled in to take charge of the November 15 friendly against Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine.

Constantini, who has struggled since succeeding Karel Bruckner at the helm two-and-a-half years ago, was sanguine at the news. "My disappointment has its limits,'' he said.

In 23 games at the helm, Constantini managed just seven wins and three draws against 13 defeats. Austria, without an appearance at a major tournament since 1998, have amassed just eight points from their eight Euro 2012 qualifiers thus far, leaving them a distant fourth in Group A.
