Arsenal complete Arteta move

Arsenal have completed a move for Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta on a four-year deal after he asked to leave Everton.

The Gunners had seen a bid for Arteta rejected, with some suggesting a cash-plus-player offer was not what the Toffees wanted.

But, facing a race against time to reach an agreement as they looked to bolster a midfield recently shorn of both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, Arsenal clinched the £10 million deal with minutes to spare before the deadline.

The transfer was confirmed on both club websites, while Everton manager David Moyes said: "Mikel indicated to me that he wished to join Arsenal if a bid came in.

"I am very disappointed to lose him but the prospect of Champions League football was something I wasn't able to offer him."

Meanwhile, Arsenal new boy Joel Campbell has been sent out on a season-long loan to FC Lorient, while fellow youngster Gilles Sunu joined the French club permanently, having spent the end of last term on loan there.
