Zarate joins Forlan at Inter Milan

Lazio striker Mauro Zarate has joined Inter Milan on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

Zarate, 24, had been looking to leave Lazio this season but the Roman outfit were reluctant to let the Argentinian go out on loan this summer.

However, the two clubs reached a compromise hours before the end of the transfer window making Zarate the second major arrival of the day at the Nerazzurri, after Diego Forlan's switch from Atletico Madrid.

A statement from Inter read: ''Mauro Zarate is an Inter player. The striker joins the club on loan from Lazio. The player has signed a contract until June 30, 2015.''

Inter will have to pay a reported 15million euros next summer to keep Zarate.

Lazio paid €20 million to acquire the striker from Al-Sadd in 2008.

''I am delighted to have arrived here,'' said Zarate on the club's official website. ''I am looking forward to training and to do well here.

''Inter was my first choice. I have fought a lot for this move and now I have to prove my worth. This is a great team. There are so many Argentinians in this team and this is beautiful, I will soon speak to them.''
