Heynckes: Bayern will get even better

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has warned the rest of the Bundesliga that the best is yet to come after his side demolished Kaiserslautern 3-0 on Saturday.

That win lifted the Bavarians to the top of the table for the first time since May 2010 and, although Hannover can still climb above them with victory overv Mainz on Sunday, it was an ominous step forwards for the record German champions. Yet Heynckes says there is still room for improvement in their game.

"For me, this was our best game of the season,'' Heynckes told Sky television. "I had always said that the team would get better game by game and we can play even better when the team gels more. We have got to be more efficient taking our chances.''

Mario Gomez scored a hat-trick in the win, despite being a doubt until just before kick off with a thigh strain he picked up against Zurich in midweek. However, Heynckes was glad the Germany international gritted his teeth and played.

"It was a doubt right up until just before the game whether he would play,'' Heynckes said. "He told me that he still had muscular problems, but if he always plays like he did, then he can say that before every game.''

Kaiserslauten coach Marco Kurz admitted his side had been overwhelmed by the opposition, saying: "We had no chance, but that was because of our opponents. Bayern were in top form.''
