Lugano swaps Fenerbahce for PSG

Fenerbahce have revealed that Uruguay captain Diego Lugano has left the club to join Ligue 1 side PSG.

Lugano, 30, has been with the Turkish outfit for five years but moves on with the club embroiled in a match-fixing scandal, which saw them withdrawn from this season's Champions League this week.

PSG are yet to confirm the signing, but a statement on Fenerbahce's official website said: "We would like to thank him for his efforts with the club to date and wish him good luck."

The statement went on to praise the centre-back for his "never-ending energy on the field" and his "brave heart".

Lugano, who has also played for South American giants Nacional and Sao Paulo, led his country to fourth place at last year's World Cup and then to a record 15th Copa America titile in July.

PSG - backed by wealthy owners the Qatar Investment Authority - have spent more than €80 million this summer on bringing players of the ilk of Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez and Kevin Gameiro to the French capital.
