Gomez fires Bayern to success
Bayern Munich cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kaiserslautern to move top of the Bundesliga ahead of the international break.
Mario Gomez bagged a hat-trick in a one-sided encounter at the Betzenberg as Bayern demonstrated how much they have changed since their last visit here a year ago to the day, when they were beaten 2-0.
The Germany international, who scored Bayern's only goal in the 1-0 win over Zurich in midweek, opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 37th minute before adding a second early in the second half. He finished off the Red Devils in the 69th minute to take the Bayern to the top of the table for the first time since May 2010.
Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund both ended the game with 10 men as they shared the spoils in a lively goalless draw at the BayArena. Leverkusen's Michal Kadlec was first to see red in the 64th minute and he was followed into the dressing room by Mario Gotze 13 minutes later, but neither side could score in a keenly-fought encounter.
Cologne scored twice in the final six minutes to turn a seven-goal thriller in their favour and claim their first victory of the season as they won 4-3 at Hamburg.
Mladen Petric put Hamburg ahead from a penalty after 11 minutes but Cologne took the lead through Adil Chihi (21) and Milivoje Novakovic (49). The game continued to swing to and fro as Hamburg restored their advantage with two goals in three minutes from Slobodan Rajkovic (59) and Son Heung-min (62), but Christian Clemens (84) and Kevin McKenna (88) secured victory for Cologne.
Freiburg collected their first victory of the young Bundesliga season as they beat Wolfsburg 3-0.
Papiss Demba Cisse failed to score in perhaps his final game for the club, but Oliver Barth fired in the first for Freiburg after 30 minutes and it was 2-0 when Erik Jendrisek netted 10 minutes later. Cedrick Makiadi pushed the advantage to 3-0 after 59 minutes.
Markus Rosenberg's late goal gave Werder Bremen a 2-1 victory at Hoffenheim to continue their strong start to the season.
Roberto Firmino gave Hoffenheim the lead after 37 minutes before Marko Arnautovic equalised a minute later and Rosenberg scored the winner in the 83rd minute.
Nurnberg saw off FC Augsburg 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Alexander Esswein in the 76th minute.
