Lahm: Klinsmann doesn't do tactics

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm has hit out at former coach Jurgen Klinsmann, claiming that he left it up to players to sort out tactics.

Klinsmann, 47, took over at Bayern in 2008, two years after leaving his role with German national side having taken them to the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup. The former striker did not enjoy success in the Bundesliga though and was sacked with five games still to be played, as Wolfsburg went on to claim the title.

Now, Lahm has revealed in a serialisation of his autobiography 'Der feine Unterschied - Wie man heute Spitzenfussballer wird' [The fine line - How to become a top professional] which goes on sale next week, that Klinsmann's style of management was unusual.

"The experiment with Klinsmann was a failure. We were only working on our fitness in training. He didn't care much for tactical stuff," he wrote. "It was up to the players to come together before a match and discuss how we were going to play.

''All the players knew after about eight weeks that it was not going to work out with Klinsmann. The remainder of that campaign was nothing but limiting the damage."

Klinsmann was recently announced as new coach of the USA national team, taking over from Bob Bradley.
