Forlan: I'm happy to stay with Atletico

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan insists he is happy at the Vicente Calderon and claimed reports of an offer from Inter Milan are wide of the mark.

Forlan, 32, has been heavily linked with a move to the San Siro recently and was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport last week as saying he had an offer, though those comments were quickly dismissed as fabrication by his agent.

The Uruguay international, who won the Golden Ball for best player at last year's World Cup in South Africa, has two years left on his contract with Atletico and says he intends to honour his current deal.

"Today I have a contract with Atletico and I am happy to be at the club," Forlan told AS. "I have a two-year contract and I cannot say what will happen. "My plan is be here and try to fulfil the contract, but it's hard to say.''

Asked whether he had received an offer from Inter, he replied "none" and claimed "there is nothing concrete" on the table.

However, he did little to diffuse speculation linking him to Inter, talking up the appeal of a move to the 2010 European champions.

"No one will doubt that Inter are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and the world, but I have a two-year contract and I cannot think of anything else.''

But Forlan, who was the Primera Division's leading scorer in 2008-09 and scored both goals in the final against Fulham as Atletico won the Europa League the following season, retains the same affection as ever for the club.

"To me nobody has told me directly that I am for sale,'' he said. "I have no grudge against anyone. If I have to go, I will continue with the same enthusiasm as always. And if I have to go, I will be happy I did all I could with this team.

"All the reports are just rumours. I have not had anything from the club saying, 'You're going'. I have the same feeling I have had since I arrived. I do what I like to do, score goals and take the club as high as possible.''
