Olic hit by fresh injury blow

Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic is facing up to more injury frustration after being ruled out for up to eight weeks with a hip problem.

The Croatia international, making just his second appearance after nine months out with knee ligament damage, sustained the injury in the act of scoring the fifth goal in the 5-0 thrashing of Hamburg at the Allianz Arena.

Olic lunged to direct Holger Badstuber's header over the line but could not stop himself from crashing into Hamburg central defender Jeffrey Bruma as well.

An initial diagnosis suggested he had bruised his pelvis but a further examination today from Bayern doctor Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt revealed a partial rupture of a tendon in the hip area.

Olic told Bayern's official website: ''This is a catastrophe. I was so pleased finally to be able to play again. But that's how professional sport is.''
