Van der Vaart in dark over Hearts

Rafael van der Vaart admits he does not know much about Thursday night's Europa League opponents Hearts - including the names of the side's players.

Van der Vaart played against Scottish opposition when Holland thumped Scotland 6-0 in Amsterdam back in 2003, but has had little experience of the SPL since and knows little about the side who stand between Spurs and a place in the Group Stage.

"I don't know much about Hearts," Van der Vaart told the Daily Record. "I know the name and the fact they're the third or fourth best team in the country next to Rangers and Celtic. I don't really know the names of their players."

Van der Vaart also acknowledged that, although an upset was a possibility, it was a fairly remote one as Spurs are the heavy favourites to progress.

"It will be an interesting game," he added. "They have a chance but I think a little one."

Hearts manager Paulo Sergio, though, says he is relishing the challenge posed by Tottenham.

Sergio said: ''Every professional in football wants to live big moments and I'm no different. The game on paper is one thing - on the pitch is another.

''Nobody should be thinking we can't win, that we are defeated - we are not. Our probabilities are less than for Tottenham. Nobody's going to bet on us, but the guy that's going to bet on us is maybe going to win big money.

''We have our cards to play. We know the difficulties we're going to have tomorrow, but we're going to work, we're going to fight.''
