Tevez to 'strike Aguero partnership'

Manchester City are increasingly confident that forward Carlos Tevez will not be sold during the current transfer window.

• Aguero stars on debut
• Mancini: 'Aguero was not at 100%'

The Argentina international striker was strongly linked with a move back to former club Corinthians earlier in the summer, but the Brazilian club failed to agree a deal before the close of their transfer window.

Tevez is known to be keen to leave Manchester for personal reasons but reported interest from the likes of Inter Milan has yet to materialise - leaving City chief executive Garry Cook increasingly confident Tevez will stay at the Etihad Stadium to strike up a partnership with new signing Sergio Aguero.

"He [Tevez] is still a Manchester City player and to see him playing alongside Aguero is going to be pretty exciting for all the City fans," Cook told BBC Radio Five Live.

When asked if he expects Tevez to stay until at least January, Cook added: "I've not spoken to anybody about anything that will dispel that notion."

However, Cook was reluctant to make any comment when asked about the future of Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri. Nasri has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City before the transfer window closes but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has continually reiterated that he doesn't want to sell the French international - and Cook refused to make any comment while negotiations are still ongoing.

"We always try not to disclose anything - obviously he's still an Arsenal player and we need to respect that," he said. "So unfortunately I will refrain from giving an update on that."

Aguero made an impression on his debut for City, scoring twice and creating another as Roberto Mancini's side romped to a 4-0 win against newly-promoted Swansea City.
