Fabregas arrives for medical

Cesc Fabregas has arrived in Barcelona for his medical after Arsenal reached an agreement for his transfer.

• Pep: Cesc move close
• Barca made to wait on Cesc

Although a deal was expected to be announced on Friday, it was not until late on Sunday that the clubs confirmed an "agreement in principle'' was in place, and Barca president Sandro Rosell revealed the details of the transfer.

"It is not €40 million," he said on Sunday. "Barca will pay €29 million and we are very happy, because we said we would not pay more than 30 and we succeeded. On top of that, the variables are €5 million plus five others, but that will be discussed in more detail tomorrow.

"This soap opera has gone on for several years. Tomorrow, the contracts will be signed and we will welcome him as one of us."

Fabregas boarded a plane bound for his hometown and was present early on Monday morning to undergo medical tests.

Upon the announcement of the deal, manager Arsene Wenger said: "We have been clear that we didn't want Cesc to leave and that remains the case. However, we understand Cesc's desire to move to his home town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona. We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success."

Fabregas is set to be handed the No. 4 shirt at Barca - his current number at Arsenal and the number worn by Pep Guardiola during his playing days at the club.

Barcelona, in a timetable on their official website, expect Fabregas to sign his contract at 12.30pm local time before meeting the press at 2pm.

The midfielder's move will bring an end to a saga that sparked into life last summer when Fabregas told Wenger that he wanted to return to his boyhood club. Wenger refused to let the Spain international leave at that time, but just over 12 months later he has given up on the battle to keep the wantaway star.

It has been suggested that Fabregas is willing to take a pay cut in order to force through the move, underlining his desperation to join the Champions League winners.

He played no part in Arsenal's pre-season campaign or their Premier League opener at Newcastle, with Wenger citing a lack of focus and a niggling injury.
