Hiddink keeps eye on Turkish trouble

Turkey national coach Guus Hiddink is watching the bribery investigation in the country's national league with interest.

Scandal halts Turkish league

Hiddink has been given assurances there has been no problem with the national team, with the investigation confined to the Super Lig.

Hiddink told Dutch newspaper Volkskrant: "Insofar as the investigation now extends, there is nothing known about bribery in the national team."

Hiddink has also hinted he would consider his position if bribery was proven to have taken place in national team games while he has been in charge.

He explained: "Of course I would leave. Football is the most important side issue in the world. It is a beautiful, big industry and employs many people, but that's not a licence for it to do things which are not correct."

The police investigation is into a series of games this year including those involving clubs such as Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor. Police have charged Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim with "leading and forming an armed criminal organisation for profiteering" and also arrested a number of players and club and league officials.
