Spurs hopeful over Van der Vaart fitness

Tottenham Hotspur are hopeful Rafael van der Vaart will be fit for the club's Premier League opener against Everton next weekend.

Van der Vaart sustained an ankle injury in Tottenham's 3-2 win over Brighton and has been ruled out of Saturday's final pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao.

"We'll keep our fingers crossed for next week," Kevin Bond, Tottenham's assistant manager, told the Daily Telegraph.

Spurs meet Everton at White Hart Lane on August 13 before travelling to Hearts for the first leg of their Europa League tie five days later.
