Arsenal, Bayern confirmed as seeds

Arsenal and Bayern Munich will be among the five seeded teams for the 'best placed' draw in the final round of Champions League qualifying.

• Europa League draw

The 20 teams who go into the play-off round hat in Nyon on Friday are split based upon how they earned the right to play in the 2011-12 competition, with the champions of the smaller leagues separated from the major nations' teams who did not win their domestic competition.

UEFA announced on Thursday that Benfica, Lyon and Villarreal will join Bayern and the Gunners in the lead pot of teams, who will be drawn to face one of FC Twente, Rubin Kazan, Udinese, FC Zurich and Odense.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will face a tough decision over Cesc Fabregas, as he would become ineligible for any other team in the group stage should he play for Arsenal and the Gunners qualify.

FC Copenhagen, who lost to Chelsea in the first knockout round in last season's Champions League, head the seeds in the champions route, along with former group stage participants BATE Barisov, Maccabi Haifa, Dinamo Zagreb and APOEL Nicosia.

Unseeded for this section of the draw will be 1979 quarter-finalists Wisla Krakow and the runners-up from the same year, Malmo. SK Sturm Graz and Genk have also taken part in the group stage while Czech Republic champions Viktoria Plzen are the only side in the draw never to have played European Cup or Champions League football.

The draw takes place at 11.00 BST on Friday, which you can follow live with ESPNsoccernet, and the ties will take place on the weeks of August 15 and 22.
