Odense and Copenhagen through

Danish sides Odense and FC Copenhagen booked their places in the Champions League play-off round with contrasting wins in Tuesday night's third qualifying round second legs.

Copenhagen cruised through 3-0 on aggregate after a 2-0 win over Irish champions Shamrock Rovers, but it was a more fraught affair for Odense, who were made to battle for a thrilling 5-4 aggregate triumph at Greek outfit Panathinaikos.

With the scores locked at 1-1 from the first leg, Odense needed an early goal to wipe out Pana's advantage and it arrived when Andreas Johansson fired home on 12 minutes.

Goals by Jean-Alain Boumsong (35) and Toche (50) turned the tie back in Pana's favour, but further strikes by Espen Ruud (58), Bashkim Kadrii (80) and Hans Henrik Andreasen (88) ensured it was the Danish outfit going through.

Odense's Bernard Mendy was dismissed for a second yellow card in stoppage time before Antonis Petropoulos' late effort for the hosts made it 4-3 on the night.

In Dublin, Shamrock Rovers were far from overawed against Danish champions Copenhagen but could not avoid going down to a 2-0 loss on the night after goals by Dame N'Doye (42) and Christian Bolanos (73).

Belarusian champions BATE Borisov are also into Friday's play-off draw after a 3-1 win against Lithuanian champions Ekranas.

After a goalless first leg, Vitali Rodionov got the ball rolling tonight with the opener for BATE after 18 minutes, although the goal was swiftly cancelled out by Ekranas' Andrius Velicka (22).

Renan Bressan restored BATE's lead on 35 minutes but saw red for a second caution just five minutes later.

Ekranas pushed for a crucial away goal in the second period but failed to make their numerical advantage count, and BATE made sure of the win when substitute Mikhail Gordeychuk netted in the final minute.
