FC Dallas down Chivas

FC Dallas narrowly defeated Chivas USA 1-0 to cut the Los Angeles Galaxy's lead in the MLS Western Conference back down to three points.

Marvin Chavez scored in the 26th minute to claim all three competition points for the Texans on Sunday night.

Ruben Luna directed a pass to Chavez from the byline and Chavez fired a right-footed strike from 8-yards out that deflected off Chivas defender Heath Pearce's leg and into the center of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Dallas recorded its third straight clean sheet at home, whilst Chivas did not even have a shot until the 33rd-minute when Blair Gavin pulled an attempt wide to the right.

Dallas 'keeper Kevin Hartman finished with two saves including one in the 90th-minute after Nick LaBrocca drilled a shot from 20 yards away straight at him. Hartman set the club record for clean sheets in a season with 12, breaking Matt Jordan's mark set in 1999.

Chavez had another goal disallowed in the 59th-minute when he was ruled offside. Dallas' Ricardo Villar then almost scored on 76 minutes when he curled a shot from 15-yards away forcing Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy to make a diving save to his right.
