Union rocked by Rapids

MLS Eastern Conference leaders the Philadelphia Union suffered a setback on Friday evening as they slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against the Colorado Rapids.

The Union were on a five-game unbeaten streak, but their chances of extending that run hit a stumbling block when the Rapids went ahead after 35 minutes through a Pablo Mastroeni strike.

Colorado then extended their lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Sanna Nyassi's effort, delivered after dribbling through the Union defence from 20-yards out.

Any hopes of a Union comeback were all but extinguished midway through the second-half when Sheanon Williams was given his marching orders in the 64th-minute.

However, they did manage to pull one goal back in the dying seconds when substitute Roger Torres put his name on the scoresheet, but it was ultimately not enough to stop the Rapids from moving to 34 competition points.
