Rossi 'taken off the market'

Juventus target Giuseppe Rossi looks set to remain at Villarreal after the forward's agent claimed the Spanish club "have taken him off the market".

• Winger Cazorla joins Malaga
• Juventus in talks with Rossi - agent

Rossi, 24, has been strongly linked with a transfer away from Villarreal this summer, with Barcelona and Juventus mentioned as interested parties.

Serie A side Juve appeared to be in pole position to land his signature, but the proposed deal has now hit the rocks after Villarreal were given a cash boost by the sale of Santi Cazorla to Malaga.

"Giuseppe Rossi has officially been taken off the market after they sold Santi Cazorla to Malaga," Federico Pastorello told Sky Sport Italia. "The economical problems which the club had have now been resolved by that [€19 million] transfer. Nevertheless, this decision has liberated Rossi as he's now just focusing on playing football and scoring goals.

"He's not used to being at the centre of such negotiations and tension. He wanted Juventus, but he's accepted the position taken by the president of Villarreal."

Italy international Rossi joined Villarreal from Manchester United in 2007. Last campaign he was in fine goalscoring form in Primera Liga, scoring 18 times in 36 outings.
