Suarez targets title tilt

Liverpool will benefit from not playing in the Europa League this season and the added rest could see them challenge for the Premier League title, according to striker Luis Suarez.

The Reds have finished outside of the top four in the last two seasons, with a seventh-place finish followed by a sixth-place finish, and it has been 21 years since they last lifted the crown. However, a £45million spending spree on Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson has seen them boosted ahead of the new season.

And Liverpool striker Suarez sees no reason why they should not be challenging at the top of the table at the end of the campaign.

"At Liverpool we always dream about being Premier League champions," he told the Daily Star Sunday. "We know, of course, that it's a very difficult league to win and very competitive. There are a lot of teams who want to be champions.

"But now we have a squad of quality. We trust our manager and we trust each other as team-mates. We are confident about that.

"We have the ability and I think Liverpool certainly should be aiming to finish among the Champions League places. Then there is always that dream, a little dream, about actually winning the Premier League.

"Maybe not playing in the Europa League this year will really help us. We will be able to focus on the league and on getting as high up the table as possible."
