Cassano urged to join Fiorentina

Former Bari boss Eugenio Fascetti has told Antonio Cassano he must leave AC Milan to improve his prospects of playing for Italy at next summer's European Championship.

Cassano, 29, has endured a frustrating spell at Milan since arriving at the San Siro last December, having started just nine Serie A games for the Rossoneri as they claimed the Scudetto.

And Fascetti, who gave Cassano his break as a 17-year-old at Bari, believes the forward should sign for Fiorentina, as he could be a regular starter for La Viola.

"I tell him to leave Milan and join Fiorentina, it's the only way he can stay in the Nazionale," Fascetti told Il Giornale. "Cesare Prandelli already told him that either he is a regular starter or he can forget the Azzurri jersey.

"In his shoes, I already would've made my decision. I read some journalists close to the Rossoneri camp think Cassano is sixth in the pecking order of strikers, even behind Alberto Paloschi. Is that acceptable? No, it isn't.

"In Florence he'd have the chance to reunite with Alberto Gilardino, as they formed a great pair for the Under-21 side. They complete each other and seem really made to act as a partnership.

"Cassano could give Gila the service he needs to come back to scoring 20 goals. With Stevan Jovetic as well, it'd be a fairytale trident."

Rumours abound in the Italian press that Sinisa Mihajlovic is keen to take Cassano to Fiorentina, with the former Real Madrid and Roma forward tipped to be used by Milan as a makeweight to bring La Viola midfielder Riccardo Montolivo to the club.
