Petric encouraged by busy summer
Hamburg forward Mladen Petric has expressed his satisfaction at the club's summer overhaul and hopes it will result in Champions League qualification.
With coach Micheal Oenning appointed in March, a new sporting director in Frank Arnesen and a revolving door transfer policy this close season it has been a period of radical change for Hamburg but Petric believes the upheaval will prove worthwhile.
"Much of what has changed I think has been good," the Croatia international told the Bild newspaper. "What was promised, we have implemented, and I have a feeling that our fans accept that. And now we feel that people have to back our young squad."
Experienced players like Piotr Trochowski, Ze Roberto, Frank Rost, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Joris Mathijsen have all left the club in recent weeks with Arnesen using his links in England to snap up promising talents such as Jacopo Sala, Gokhan Tore, Michael Mancienne and Jeffrey Bruma.
Petric is hoping the changes will enable him to play among Europe's elite. He said: "I will pursue this dream, but why should not I try to realise this dream with HSV? The path here goes in the right direction. It is crucial that this path is preserved and that we can avoid the oncoming traffic on the hard shoulder."
