Dutch club AZ Alkmaar have confirmed the signing of USA striker Jozy Altidore from Villarreal on a four-year contract.
Altidore joined Villarreal from MLS side New York Red Bulls in 2008 but failed to establish himself at the Spanish club, which loaned him to Xerez, Hull and Bursaspor.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped 34 times for the USA, will now try to prove himself in the Eredivisie, at the sixth club of his career.
"For me it's about the environment," Altidore told the Boston Herald. "It's really essential. I think I'm at the age where I have a lot of experience now, I've played in a lot of places, I've played against top competition around the world.
"So I think it's important to me now to go to a place where I can put that on display. That's what I"m going to do. That's what I'm hoping for."
Altidore, who played at last year's World Cup in South Africa, has scored 12 goals for the USA but only managed to play nine matches for Villarreal.
