Davis signs new Gers deal
Rangers have secured another key player on a long-term contract after midfielder Steven Davis signed on for five more years.
Davis, 26, follows Allan McGregor and Steven Whittaker in committing himself to Rangers this summer.
The Northern Ireland midfielder had been entering the final year of his previous deal and his signature is a major boost for Gers days before they begin the defence of their SPL title at home to Hearts.
Davis arrived at Ibrox on loan from Fulham in January 2008, helping the club reach the UEFA Cup final.
The former Aston Villa midfielder signed for the club on a long-term basis months later and has won three consecutive SPL titles since.
The news, announced on the club's official website, comes after McGregor last month signed for six years and Whittaker for five years.
Rangers director of football Gordon Smith last week revealed that defender Madjid Bougherra, who is also entering the final year of his contract, was open to discussing an extended stay.
Davis hopes the club can bring in new players now that they have settled his future.
Speaking before the friendly against Blackpool, Davis told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to get the deal signed and sealed and obviously I'm happy to commit my future to the club in the long term.
"Hopefully we can keep being successful for the length of the contract. I've signed for a long time and hopefully I can have my best years with the club.
"It was a big boost to see Allan and Steven sign up last week as they have been a big part of the success we've already had in the last couple of years.
"It was nice for me to be able to follow in their footsteps and hopefully we can now get a few new signings in as well.
"We've got quite a settled team from last season and a lot of us are on long-term deals now which is important.
"It's just a case of adding to our group now as it's a wee bit thin at the moment and it will be nice to get some fresh faces on board.''
