Lampard: We're already strong

Frank Lampard does not believe that additions at Chelsea are essential for the club to compete for the 2011-12 Premier League title.

• Courtois plans Atleti loan
• Villas-Boas targets CL glory

Chelsea finished second last season, nine points behind champions Manchester United after the Blues were guilty of a poor run of form during the middle of the campaign.

United have since bolstered their ranks with Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea, while Manchester City are expected to improve their squad before the transfer deadline.

Liverpool have also added, bringing in Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing, while Arsenal recently signed Gervinho from Lille. Chelsea, meanwhile, have yet to acquire a senior signing under new boss Andres Villas-Boas.

Lampard, though, is confident in his current team-mates. He said: "Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have spent fortunes on good quality players, but we are in a bit of a different situation in that we already had a very strong squad.

"The manager wants to evaluate what he has got which is understandable and who knows whether we add or change, that is the manager's prerogative, but the great thing we have already is we believe in ourselves as we are.

"Whether the manager makes additions or changes or not, I think the squad is very strong to challenge. Whether Man United or any other team spends, we still believe in ourselves."
