Hannover defensive midfielder Manuel Schmiedebach has no interest in signing a new contract this summer and wants to see how the club start the season before making a decision.
Hannover general manager Jorg Schmadtke has been trying to persuade Schmiedebach, 22, to sign new terms for almost a year now, but has again been rebuffed.
"We would like him to extend," Schmadtke said on Kicker, "but I cannot force him."
Schmiedebach knows he has several suitors to choose from if he chose to leave, and is relaxed going into the final year of his deal.
"I want to see how we start," he said. "I want to know how it is going for me and for the club."
That means Hannover are likely to have to wait for the winter break before knowing whether they can tie one of their best young talents to a longer contract.
