Redknapp fears Spurs slide

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he fears Spurs could slide down the Premier League table if the club loses its star players, insisting the big names will only stay if "we show the ambition".

• Spurs seal deal for teen Coulibaly
• Spurs reject Modric transfer request
• Redknapp hopes for tour distraction
• Harry dismisses Blues' Modric bid
• Sandro injury blow

Redknapp is desperately attempting to keep hold of wantaway midfielder Luka Modric, with Chelsea seeing bids of £22 million and £27 million rejected for the 25-year-old.

Modric, who had a written transfer request turned down by chairman Daniel Levy, is keen to play Champions League football - something that the White Hart Lane outfit cannot offer this season - and Redknapp admits it would be disastrous if his best players head for the exit door.

"He [Modric] has a fantastic contract but maybe he sees the chance to win the Premier League and play in the Champions League," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "He sees it as a big opportunity for him but we want to keep him as well, he is a top player for us.

"We have to show the ambition to keep these players, your Lukas, your Rafas, your Gareth Bales. If he [Modric] goes, he weakens us and if you start to letting your best players go who knows where we will finish up."
