Mancini tries to defuse Wenger row

Roberto Mancini has responded to Arsene Wenger's claim that the Manchester City boss is "out of order" by declaring he doesn't know why the Arsenal manager is so upset.

• Mancini hopes over Aguero and Nasri

Wenger's midfielder Samir Nasri is amongst Mancini's transfer targets and the Italian manager has angered Wenger by publicly announcing his desire to sign the Arsenal midfielder before the end of July.

Speaking to The Sun, Mancini said: "I hope that we can buy [him] because we need other players. I hope that this player can arrive before the end of the month."

Wenger - who still intends to keep Nasri at Arsenal - responded by saying: "I think the comments are not allowed. They are against the basic rules of football and he should be informed [of that]. Disrespectful? I cannot say otherwise. This comment is absolutely out of order but I don't give it more importance than that."

Mancini, however, disagrees with Wenger's assessment and has defiantly replied to the Arsenal manager by saying: "I said only that Nasri and [Sergio] Aguero are two good players and I said also that Nasri is under contract with Arsenal. I don't know why he's upset.

"Because the question was about some good players, I say that like this. I said also that Nasri is under contract with Arsenal, it's difficult. Only this."
