Cech wants team success

Petr Cech says that his motivation in football surrounds winning trophies as a team and that personal records only come second.

Cech, 29, had another impressive season in 2010/2011 but it proved to be a disappointing one as Chelsea failed to win a single trophy and manager Carlo Ancelotti was sacked. However, despite recognition of his good form, the imposing goalkeeper told the Star on Sunday that his preference would be for team success:

"I hope I will get more trophies next season because it's not all about personal records. I am happy if my contribution and performances help us to win trophies. Last season was a great one for me personally, but unfortunately it was not a great one for the team.

"Hopefully, the next one will be one of the best for the team because this is why I am playing football. Individual trophies and awards are nice. But in the end it is the team's success and the trophies we win that count the most."

The next twelve months could be interesting for ex-Rennes stopper Cech. Young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is believed to be nearing a move to Chelsea and his arrival could put pressure on the Czech international goalkeeper.
