Blackburn have agreed terms with striker Mariano Pavone and the Argentine is set to sign a three-year deal at the weekend according to his agent.
Pavone, 29, bought out the last year of his contract with Spanish side Real Betis to join Rovers after spending the season on loan with River Plate. It was not a good spell as River were relegated for the first time in their 110-year history and Pavone missed a vital penalty in their relegation play-off against Belgrano.
However, the striker has done enough to impress Blackburn boss Steve Kean, and his representative Barry McIntosh told Sky Sports: "Mariano is delighted to get his chance in English football.
"He has spoken to several clubs but he was particularly impressed by Steve Kean. Steve made him feel very welcome and explained his plans, and Mariano was delighted with what he heard."
