City reject Corinthians' £35m Tevez bid

Corinthians are shocked that Manchester City have apparently rejected a £35 million bid for Carlos Tevez - as they claim they have had no contact from the Premier League club.

• Joorabchian claims Tevez deal close
• Corinthians offer €40m for Tevez
• Richards denies wage claim

ESPNsoccernet understands City are holding out for £50 million fee and that is the reason for them turning down the first concrete bid for Tevez this summer.

However, Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian told ESPNsoccernet: "Corinthians have had no response whatsoever to their offer."

Joorabchian was certain when he claimed earlier on Tuesday that the Argentina striker was "close" to a return to Corinthians, the club he left in 2007 to join West Ham, that the offer would be accepted.

He said a move back to Brazil would be a "dream" for Tevez, who has stated that he would like to return to South America to be closer to his family.

"Negotiations have already begun. Corinthians are in contact with us," Joorabchian said. "His [Tevez's] dream and mine is to see him back with Corinthians. He said he has a job that does not end there, he wants to return because he has the dream of winning the Copa Libertadores.

"Corinthians have made the offer, now it depends only on Manchester City. City has to make a decision."

However, that decision now appears to have been made by the Eastlands hierarchy, with City chiefs turning down the bid as they are determined to recoup £50 million for Tevez, who cost them around £47 million when he made a controversial switch from Manchester United in 2009.

Tevez has become a City icon over the past two years and his goals inspired them to FA Cup glory last season, as well as a third-place finish and qualification for the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League.

The talismanic forward has scored 52 goals in 81 appearances for City, but has been regularly linked with a move away from the club over the past 12 months; ahead of this year's January transfer window he made and then withdrew a transfer request and again expressed his desire to leave two weeks ago.

Tevez has also previously been linked with Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid but has maintained that his motivation for moving is to be closer to his daughters.

"Living without my children in Manchester has been incredibly challenging for me," Tevez said earlier this month. "Everything I do, I do for my daughters, Katie and Florencia. I need to be closer to them and to spend more time with them."
