Villa wept at World Cup glory

Spain striker David Villa has revealed he "cried like a child" in the immediate aftermath of his country's World Cup glory last year.

Spain were crowned world champions last summer in South Africa to confirm their international dominance, two years after they lifted the European championship.

A year after Villa's team defeated Netherlands 1-0 in a bruising final courtesy of Andres Iniesta's winning goal in extra-time, the Barcelona forward has reflected on an emotional response to the achievement.

He told Marca: "I saw grown men crying like babies. In the dressing room we all burst into tears.

"I was shocked to see tears from Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta - players who have won everything in football - crying. I cried like a child."
