Juventus, Arsenal chasing Doyle - report

Juventus and Arsenal are set to go head to head in a surprise fight to sign Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, according to a report in Ireland's Sunday World newspaper.

Juventus are believed to have been tracking Doyle since he impressed leading the line against Italy in 2010 World Cup qualifiers and Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has backed his former club to swoop.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is unlikely to allow Doyle, 27, to leave the Premier League without trying to tempt him with move to North London and the Frenchman's long-term interest in the striker set to be confirmed with a rival bid.

Doyle will sit down with Wolves officials in the next 10 days to discuss his future, but a source close to the player has revealed that he will leave Molineux if Juve or the Gunners come calling.

"There is definite interest in Kevin from Arsenal and Juventus," revealed a source close to the deal. "Talks are planned with Wolves over a new contract, but a move is certainly possible this summer.

"Kevin loves playing for Wolves and especially enjoys working with Mick McCarthy, but it would be impossible to turn down the chance to play for clubs like Juventus and Arsenal."

Should Doyle leave Wolves, the door will be open for Mick McCarthy to swoop for Reading frontman Shane Long, who is also thought to be attracting interest from Everton, Fulham and West Brom.
