Diawara out to learn from mistakes

Marseille defender Souleymane Diawara admits he made mistakes last season but is ready to put things right during the forthcoming campaign.

Marseille missed out on a successful defence of their Ligue 1 title as they finished eight points behind leaders Lille, with Diawara absent from crucial games due to disciplinary issues.

Among the Senegal international's misdemeanours was receiving a three-match for stamping on the stomach of Paris St Germain's Nene, while he was fortunate to escape a European ban after appearing to knee Spartak Moscow striker Welliton.

And the 32-year-old told L'Equipe: "Yes, I have sometimes been clumsy. I made mistakes. But I am not alone, I had ups and downs, like the team. There were a lot of errors that I want to avoid repeating.''

The disciplinary issues put a strain on Diawara's relationship with manager Didier Deschamps, but he says any problems have been resolved after the pair held talks recently.

"I went to see him and it went well,'' Diawara said. "He told me what he had to say, I told him what I had to say and everything is back to normal.''
