Garay to move to Benfica - agent

Real Madrid defender Ezequiel Garay will quit Spain to sign for Benfica according to his agent.

• New role for Zinedine Zidane

Garay, 24, was tipped as one of the best young defenders around when he arrived at the Bernabeu in 2009 but struggled to establish himself, making just eight appearances in all competitions last season.

With the capture of left-back Fabio Coentrao, Garay was reported to be part of the deal with Benfica, but his agent has revealed that his €5.5 million move to Portugal will be separate.

"He [Garay] will play for Benfica," Ricardo Schlieper told Maisfutebol. "Everything has been settled. He signed a contract on Wednesday. I was in Madrid and he received the paperwork in Santa Fe, where he was with the national team. It is a four-year contract."

Schlieper also revealed that Garay was looking forward to joining his fellow Argentina team-mates in Portugal.

"He has always been interested [in moving to Benfica],'' he said. "They are a great club and play in an attractive league, with a lot of Argentines, which makes it all the more comfortable, and he will play on a regular basis which is what he was missing."
