Clichy arrives for City medical

Arsenal defender Gael Clichy is closing in on a move to Manchester City after arriving at a private hospital for a medical.

Clichy was expected to sign for Liverpool this summer but they appear to have been gazumped by City, who are believed to have offered £7 million.

The France international will be out of contract at the end of next season and Arsenal are keen to cash in to avoid him leaving for nothing.

Speculation over his future intensified on Sunday evening when the Frenchman was pictured outside a restaurant in Manchester, and now his eight-year association with the Gunners appears to be coming to an end.

City are also still monitoring fellow Arsenal contract rebel Samir Nasri, who is due for showdown talks with manager Arsene Wenger this week. But Nasri is believed to favour a move to Manchester United after speaking of his desire to win trophies.

With Wayne Bridge set to be offloaded this summer, possibly to Newcastle United, and Aleksandar Kolarov failing to impose himself on the English game after moving from Lazio, City boss Roberto Mancini was eager to finally sign a quality left-back.

If Clichy does move to Eastlands, he will become the third Arsenal player to tread the same path in the space of two years, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure also moving north.

Nicklas Bendtner, Manuel Almunia and Cesc Fabregas all look likely to leave Emirates Stadium, with Charlton's Carl Jenkinson the only arrival to date.
