Dortmund snare Amini from A-League

Central Coast Mariners starlet Mustafa Amini has officially been transferred to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Amini has long been linked with a move to the current German champions, but negotiations between the two clubs regarding a transfer fee were drawn out. The talented playmaker has also attracted recent interest from Celtic, but did not play for the Mariners against the Scottish Premier League side on Saturday during the club's pre-season tour of Australia.

The deal, for an undisclosed fee believed to be worth well in excess of the $135,000 originally offered, will see the attacking midfielder remain with the Mariners for the 2011-12 campaign on loan before heading to the Westfalenstadion.

"I'd like to thank Peter Turnbull and Graham Arnold at the Mariners for working on this with Dortmund," Amini said. "I'm really excited to be joining Dortmund, they're a big club with amazing supporters."

Turnbull, the Mariners' chairman, explained that he was also pleased with the deal as it will allow the AIS-product to remain with the club throughout the AFC Champions League 2012 competition.

"I am pleased we have been able to secure a much improved deal for all parties, and thank Dortmund for their consideration of our requests. We now have a deal that satisfies everyone. Musti's international future, the clubs needs and more importantly, the fans. They will now be able to see Musti play out the balance of his original contract plus the Asian Champions League group stage."

"We are a club that encourages young Australian players, and that will continue to be the case. It is testament to Arnie [Graham Arnold] and our coaching staff that we have five players in the running for the Australian Under 20 World Cup team, and that would have been six had Mat Ryan not been injured.

"We wish Musti all the best as he continues his international football education and I know that in the meantime the Mariners will be the focus of his attention and hard work. We have agreed that when he returns from his exciting European career, it will be to play for the Mariners again," said Turnbull.

Amini will join fellow Australian young-gun Mitchell Langerak at Dortmund after the goalkeeper moved from A-League club Melbourne Victory just over a year ago.

18-year-old Amini will soon depart with his Australian team-mates to take part in the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia before heading back to Gosford for the next A-League campaign.
