France women's trio pose naked

Three members of the French Women's World Cup squad have posed naked for pictures in German newspaper Bild to draw attention to their sport.

Gaetane Thiney, Elodie Thomis and Corine Franco posed for the pictures under the motto: "Is this how we should show up before you come to our games?" They claim they made the decision - following some German players' appearances in Playboy last month - to raise awareness about the women's game.

"The pictures have come out really nice and I really like them," Thiney, who scored twice in the 4-0 win over Canada, told Bild. "We wanted to provoke and to generate some discussion."

However, she added that the French players must now back up their off-the-pitch antics with success on the field as they prepare to face champions Germany on Tuesday.

"We will try to get more attention through our success," she added.
