Arnesen confident duo will succeed

Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen has tipped new signings Michael Mancienne and Jeffrey Bruma to make an immediate impression when the new season gets underway.

Arnesen has been in his new post just a few weeks after leaving a similar role at Chelsea and was quick to return to his old club to poach the talents of the young duo, whom he believes will flourish in the Bundesliga.

Netherlands international Bruma, who has agreed a two-year loan switch, has four senior Chelsea appearances under his belt in addition to time on loan at Leicester, while England Under-21 regular Mancienne has several years' experience at Championship and Premier League level from loan spells at Wolves and QPR.

"Bruma has already played for the national team and has been training with Chelsea's senior squad for the past year and a half while Mancienne has two years' Premier League experience under his belt,'' Arnesen told www.bundesliga.de. "They'll certainly be able to help us right away.

"I've known them both for a number of years and I can say without doubt that as well as being talented, they're highly motivated players as well."

The Dane added that more new arrivals were being lined up in what is shaping to be a busy summer of transfer activity at Hamburg.

He said: "Our top priority is a creative midfielder, a box-to-box player. We have a few candidates in mind, but it could take a little while yet. There's not much happening in Europe at the moment.

"Overall, though, I wouldn't necessarily say we're ruling out strengthening in any department at the moment. We always need to think about what's best for the club. If there's a chance of a good deal, we'll take it."

Certainly the exit door has been well used at Hamburg this summer, with the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Piotr Trochowski, Ze Roberto and Joris Mathijsen leaving, and Arnesen admitted David Rozehnal, Guy Demel, Alex Silva and Jonathan Pitroipa are poised to follow suit.

"All that's missing with David is a signature. He'll be signing a contract with Lille," he said. "Alex would really like to stay in Brazil and we're working on finding a deal that would make that possible.

"The transfer window remains open in Brazil until July 15 and three clubs have already expressed an interest."

On Ivory Coast international Demel's future, Arnesen added: "There has been interest from a few English clubs. If nothing concrete comes of that, he'll start preparing for the season with us on Sunday.

"We're always aiming to find the best solution for all parties. We don't just think of our own interest, but those of the player as well."
