O'Hara completes Wolves move

Jamie O'Hara has completed a permanent move to Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £5 million.

• Live  Transfer blog

O'Hara, 24, joined Wolves on loan from Tottenham in January after failing to win a place in the Spurs team following his return from a season on loan at Portsmouth.

The midfielder, who also played for Chesterfield and Millwall, made 14 appearances in the second half of the season and helped guide Mick McCarthy's side to Premier League safety on the final day of the campaign, scoring three goals - with his strike against West Bromwich Albion voted the club's Goal of the Season.

McCarthy told the club's official website: "I am delighted the deal has been done which will see Jamie become a permanent Wolves player. It may have taken a bit of time to finalise all the details but it was always going to happen because we wanted to sign him and he wanted to come.

"He showed some real quality when he was on loan with us last season, and that was having come back from not playing for eight months after a back operation. Despite that absence, he made a key contribution over the second half of the campaign, and with a full pre-season behind him he has the potential to get even better next season.

"He is a midfielder who is good on the ball, not afraid to put his foot in and also has an eye for goal. On top of that he is also a good character around the place who has a positive influence in the dressing room. He has also built up a great rapport with the fans who have enjoyed watching him play, particularly of course with the Goal of the Season he scored against West Brom.

"Jamie is a quality player - a Premier League player - and just the sort we need to bring in to strengthen the squad ahead of another season in the division."

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey added: "We are delighted to make Jamie our first confirmed signing of the summer particularly given the impressive loan spell he enjoyed with us over the second half of last season. He made a very positive impact both on and off the pitch and played a key role in helping us achieve our aim of Premier League survival.

"What is more, he settled very well at the club and his attitude and ability epitomises what the manager looks for in each and every member of his squad. Our desire to sign Jamie was evident in the option agreed with Tottenham to potentially make the loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

"I can confirm we exercised the option as soon as the campaign had finished but as ever at this time of year, holidays for various parties meant we couldn't announce anything until now. Given how keen Jamie was to join us, we always knew it was just a matter of completing the formalities.

"With those formalities complete, Jamie has agreed a five year contract and will become a permanent signing on July 1 at the end of his loan spell. In keeping with club policy, the financial terms of the transfer will remain undisclosed.

"We are all looking forward to Jamie getting a full pre-season completed, something he missed last year, and playing an integral part from the beginning of next season during which we hope, and expect, him to be even more effective player for Wolves in the Premier League."
