Taarabt targets move to top club

QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt has revealed he is eager to secure a move to Chelsea or Arsenal this summer providing he is given assurances over first-team opportunities.

Taarabt takes top prize

Taarabt, 22, left Tottenham for QPR in 2010 having failed to secure regular football at White Hart Lane, but he has proved his worth at Loftus Road and was a key part of the side that won the Championship last season.

His impressive displays have led to reported interest from a number of top clubs in the Premier League. Liverpool - whose director of football, Damien Comolli, was responsible for the player's arrival at Spurs - are said to be among them, but it appears Taarabt would prefer to remain in the capital.

He told Football365.fr: "I like the London clubs. I do not hide my liking for Chelsea [although] I would prefer to play regularly at QPR to being on the bench for a season at Chelsea. Now, if they told me I'd play 20 games per season, I think I'd be very tempted."

He could have signed for Arsenal rather than Spurs had Comolli not made the switch across North London just prior to the player's arrival and, in an interview with the London Evening Standard in January, Taarabt said: "I would have had a better chance at Arsenal. I would progress with Arsene Wenger. He is a legend in France, one of the best managers in the world."

Asked now about whether he would welcome a move to Arsenal, he said: "The idea is very appealing. Especially since there is also Samir Nasri, who I know very well, but after that, there is a real possibility of playing the minimum."

Taarabt claims clubs have registered their interest in his services and, asked about the prospect of joining a big club in England, he said: "It's currently what I'm trying to achieve. Today, I have a two-year contract with QPR. Yes, there is contact, but I cannot say more, as you can imagine."
