Sochaux appoint Bazdarevic

Mehmed Bazdarevic believes he has taken on the biggest challenge of his career after his appointment as manager of Sochaux.

The 50-year-old Bosnian is back to the club where he played as a midfielder for nearly a decade in the 1980s and 1990s.

The former Grenoble boss has signed a two-year deal with Sochaux, who finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season, since when Francis Gillot has left to take charge at Bordeaux.

Bazdarevic welcomed the opportunity to succeed Gillot but knows it will be a challenge to match his predecessor's achievements.

''A job was done here last season. It was a very good job. But I'm going to try to bring something to keep this talented group progressing,'' Bazdarevic said. ''To work with a squad that has many qualities makes it almost even easier. I'm a good coach. I want this team to be one that plays.

''I've experienced many things with this club, and mainly all good. It's a great pride but also an enormous challenge, maybe the most important since I've been a coach. There is a bit more pressure. But I've come to a stable club, with people who I know very well.''
